What We’re Wearing
On a Hike
Maybe it was the pandemic, when guys everywhere started appreciating the benefits of getting outside (and away from crowds). Maybe it's simply the fact that so many menswear brands have embraced gorpcore staples, from ruggedly handsome pullovers to pants that are made from tech-y fabrics that wick away moisture and come with plenty of adventure-friendly pockets. Then there are the boots just begging to get dirty. In any case, hiking style is huge right now and fall is the perfect time to get out there—it's not too hot, not too cold and there will soon be plenty of leaves to peep. Best of all, the gear you need for a good weekend hike is equally at home with the rest of your casual wardrobe. So feel free to mix these items into your regular rotation, even when you're just trekking across town.

Making the Case for …
Storing Your Booze in Style
Do you absolutely need a decanter for your home bar? Absolutely not. Does it make a big difference when it comes to displaying and enjoying your spirits at home? I’m going to say, “hell yes.” Because there’s nothing quite like coming home after a long day and pouring yourself a drink. When it comes to the ritual of enjoying a stiff drink to take the edge off, the act of pouring your drink is a crucial step. And a decanter elevates that experience.
Plus, it comes with some serious bonuses. For one, it looks damn good on a tray or bar cart. The mixing of decanters with some well-chosen bottles makes for a classically handsome tableau. These old school bottles also allow you to decant a spirit with an ugly bottle or to hide the apple flavored whiskey you’re a little embarrassed by (no? Just me?). These also come in handy when you’re bottling your signature cocktail. I like to have a pre-mixed decanter of Negronis on standby. Our resident drinks expert put me onto this a few years ago and it’s a game changer. A spirits-only cocktail will keep, he explained, so why not mix up a batch, pour it into a decanter to sit about, and wait for when you want a nip? Brilliant. It takes all the stress and mess out of mixing drinks. And it looks damn good when in a proper decanter. Crate & Barrel is my go-to spot for them—they’re made from crystal clear glass that looks expensive but is surprisingly durable and dishwasher-safe. And they’ve always got a few styles to choose from. Right now, I’m feeling this one with its squared-off shape and textured geometric pattern.

The cowboys on the ranch tend to 1,000 head of cattle, whose meat is used for Lauren’s burgers and steaks at The Polo Bar in New York and for suede boots and bags for the vintage-inspired Double RL line.”

Grab a couple of friends willing to dress up—I promise many will jump at the invitation—and make it a weekly or monthly tradition.”

Earlier this week we highlighted some open-toe sandals I wear on holiday. How about closed-toe sandals though? Fisherman styles have become popular recently, perhaps driven by a shared desire to stay cool, and comfortable, plus casual but not quite as casual as a pair of Havaianas.
