The Shirt You Need Right Now
Nothing says Fall is approaching quite like pulling on a fresh flannel shirt. Worn by everyone from grunge god Kurt Cobain to the perpetually dapper designer Ralph Lauren—they can be buttoned up by themselves right now and are perfect for a mid-layer during the colder months. This Fall favorite isn't new, of course, but how people have been wearing them feels fresh. The easily adaptable shirts can be mixed in a nostalgic way as people are knee-deep in '90s fashion looks—throw them over a tee or thermal with some vintage denim, worn-in leather jackets and chunky footwear.
Today's best styles are more relaxed and cut a little roomier. You've got traditional prints like Buffalo plaid and tartans along with rugged fabrics like brushed twills and soft wool blends. Although plaid is synonymous with classic-looking flannels, there are solid options in case a bold pattern or print isn't your vibe. But the best ones are unapologetically flannel, with sturdy buttons and a fuzzy texture. We've picked out a few to help jumpstart your fall wardrobe wishlist, so don't wait to buy these when it's already too cold.

A flannel that will age beautifully thanks to its indigo-dyed yarn and enamel-coated buttons. Wear this under a vest or layer a waffle-knit thermal underneath.

Mesa mini fire pit, $119.99 / $79.99 by Solo Stove
Fall and fire just go together. But you don't need a big backyard to enjoy the benefits of a good fire pit. Solo Stove, makers of a cult-favorite stainless steel smokeless fire pit, recently shrunk down their signature model for a much more portable tabletop version. A stand is included, so no need to worry about where you place it. It burns both traditional firewood and easy wood pellets, plus you've got a choice of several colors—but I'm partial to the classic stainless steel. Use it for s'mores, use it for romantic ambiance, or bring it to your next tailgate. You'll be surprised how often this comes in handy.- Cory Ohlendorf

New Skincare Brand ATWATER
Skincare regimens can be daunting, but ATWATER, founded by former Kiehl’s president Chris Salgardo, is a new skincare brand aimed to simplify things. They use clean, non-toxic formulas with resourceful ingredients with the goal of helping your skin become healthier. I’m always skeptical of new skincare products because I have dry to combination skin, so once I find something that works, I tend to stick with that brand or product. I’ve been a Kiehl’s devotee for the last five years, so once I found out the former head was branching out on his own, well, it made it a little easier for me to give it a try.
I swapped in a few ATWATER products for my regulars and after some experimentation, have found them to be a beneficial addition to my lineup. The Heavy Armor Cleansing Bar is formulated for combination and dry skin and has become a new favorite. Made from jojoba seed oil, coconut and honey, my skin feels soft and smooth after lathering up with this. If you’re used to a cleanser out of a bottle, don’t fret. Wet the bar between your hands and you get a creamy lather that rinses clean. The benefit of a bar (besides being travel-friendly) is that it requires fewer preservatives and chemicals.
After cleansing my face, I’ll apply the Skin Armor Moisturizer. An antioxidant-rich blend of soothing niacinamide and licorice root along with amino acids and tucuma seed butter that work to hydrate and brighten skin. What I appreciate about this is how fast it absorbs without leaving any oily residue behind. I use this in the morning and evening to ensure that I don’t get any dryness or flakes, especially around my nose and eyebrows. If you have oily skin, then the brand’s lightweight oil regulator facial moisturizer will work for you. I tried this, but it almost worked too good. My greedy skin demands more moisturizing ingredients, so I switched to the Skin Armor Moisturizer instead.
Skin armor face scrub,$25
Lastly, ATWATER created a Skin Armor Face Scrub that can be used once to twice a week to prevent clogged pores and gently buff away dead skin. The invigorating minty scent smells so good and is a great way to wake up. Both a physical and chemical exfoliator, there are natural jojoba beads mixed with salicylic acid, along with a compound derived from chlorophyll—which explains the deep emerald color. Whenever I use it, I do so in the shower, and once I get out, my face feels brand new. Also, I found that my products always absorb better after a good scrub down.
Like I said, it takes a lot to get me to switch out my grooming products. But ATWATER definitely has the simplified skincare routine dialed in with all-natural ingredients and formulas that deliver on their promise to heal and replenish your skin. The fact that they’re reasonably priced too? That’s even better.

My earliest fashion memory is watching Kurt Cobain perform on MTV Unplugged in 1993–I remember obsessing over his cardigan when I was a kid, searching thrift stores for something similar.”
