Friday,August 26th Edition
I’ve been in my footwear bag lately—maybe it’s because fall is approaching or because I don’t really need any clothes, so the next best thing is to buy more shoes.

The New Shoes on Our Radar
Ready to give your tired summer kicks a rest and start shopping for fall footwear? Yeah, we are too. Maybe this list will help get you going in the right direction. There are so many great shoes dropping these days, we thought we would pull a few of our current favorites to showcase. From a hefty handmade moc shoe and a pair of buckle slip-ons to an update on a classic sneaker, these are the shoes our team can't stop talking about.
On Our Radar
Taylor Stitch is known for its sturdy outerwear and durable denim, which is why you shouldn't be surprised about the quality craftsmanship of their footwear. The waxed suede is thoughtfully sourced and is ready to be worn in any terrain no matter the season. Handmade in Mexico, the shoe is built to last a lifetime thanks to the Vibram lug sole, weather-resistant leather laces and a 100% resoleable Goodyear welt. Wear these with anything from a good pair of beat-up chinos to some relaxed-fitting corduroy pants—these will be the star of your entire fall kit.

Nike's latest design is a high energy hybrid combining both heritage and innovation. The new athletic sneaker fuses an upper from the beloved 2012 Flyknit Racer with the Air Max Pre-Day that was first introduced last year. The result is a stylish and highly-breathable shoe with springy comfort and performance. Rounding out the design are finishes like a chiseled heel, thin tube laces and Nike Grind outsoles.

The iconic Iron Ranger boot from Red Wing gets a new colorway in slate muleskinner. The six-inch boot features a leather toe cap, Goodyear welt construction, Puritan triple-stitch and brass hardware. The Vibram outsole also allows the boot to thrive in any cold-weather conditions. We've said it before, but a more refined version of menswear is currently permeating. Guys are once again after well-made items, and these boots personify that perfectly.

If you've been living under a rock the past few years, you might've missed that New Balance has been enjoying a stylish resurgence. Drawing inspiration from archival designs from the early aughts, they're giving throwback silhouettes a modern-day twist. The 2002R elevates a everyday style with premium suede and textiles, and the indigo colorway is subtle but eye-catching. Plus, the ABZORB cushioning and “Stability Web” technology provide the support and comfort New Balance is known for.

I'll always be a sucker for a beige suede pair of shoes. YMC has teamed up with Fracap once again to create these buckled slip-ons (which they're calling sandals). Crafted by hand in the brand's original home of Monterino, Italy, the shoes include a calf cuoio innersole, heavy-duty front buckle and taping detailing. These will look great with a contrasting denim-on-denim look or a soft-shoulder unstructured navy blazer—perhaps the one in our latest “Three Ways to Wear” series.

Stuff We Swear by
A Chic French Press
Mornings can be hectic. Everyone has their own rituals for getting out the door; hell, we have an entire series dedicated to them. I’ve always been a morning person that can get up and go, but ever since having a kid, I like to wake up, brew some coffee and sit in silence before listening to a podcast or some music. Whether waking up early to reflect on how the day will go or ending the night with how the day went, some quality time to yourself is sacred and necessary.
I typically wake up around 6:45 am with no alarm clock—my body is used to waking up that early now. And much like everyone else, I have the unhealthy habit of rolling over and checking social media (and the weather, in my defense). After doom-scrolling for a bit, I’ll hop in the shower, get dressed and take the dog out. Once all that happens, it’s coffee time.
Sometimes I alternate between a pour-over and a French press based on my mood. Recently I’ve been favoring my Le Creuset French press for a strong cup of black coffee that gives me a good “punch in the mouth” to get the day started. The enamel-glazed stoneware is not only chic looking, but the glossed enamel finish is incredibly durable and scratch-resistant. Plus, it naturally keeps your brew hot much longer than glass or even metal French presses. If you are attempting to depart from a Keurig or any other one-button coffee-making machine (not that there’s anything wrong with those, they just water down your beans, so you’re not getting the true essence of great tasting “mud”), the process of a French press is dummy-proof. Add coarsely ground coffee beans to the carafe, then steep in boiling water. The plunger pushes the mesh sieve through the grounds, filtering it while retaining the maximum depth of coffee flavor—that direct contact between the beans and the water means bolder flavor. This press holds 34 ounces, which can last you throughout the day or maybe half a day, depending on your caffeine intake (no judgement). Plus, it’s quick and easy to clean since you can throw it into the dishwasher. Also, if you need a reheat, feel free to throw it in the oven since it can withstand up to 500 degrees of heat—a bonus to an already great coffee apparatus.

Cut from a classic workwear blend of cotton and linen on vintage Madras looms, the indigo-dyed yarns will beautifully fade over time, showing a natural patina of wear over the years.

Not sure how these aren't sold out yet but here we are. The boxy chino is a workhorse pant that's super-wearable made from a Japanese military twill that’s stonewashed for a lived-in feel.

Designed from pique cotton, this Type III-inspired jacket is a more relaxed version of a denim trucker. The fabric is garment-dyed for a nice even color that will age beautifully with wear. For this price, it's practically a steal.

Classical dynamism next to provocative kitsch isn’t something you come across in every apartment, let alone typical Parisian ones, but it creates an almost playground-like environment for guests to navigate and explore.”

Beams is also the source of one of menswear’s worst-kept secrets: an in-house line of extremely rad clothing, with a focus on gently-freaked Americana made with the retailer’s telltale attention to detail.”

What began two years ago as a jump into the unknown world of furniture making—Grant had been working as a set designer and Teresa as an interior designer in London—has proven to be a surprising success.”
