We’ve made it through another week and a heatwave. It’s only 32 days to fall, and I’m excited. Who else is ready to stow away your swim trunks and camp collars in exchange for boots and sweaters?

The New Shoes on Our Radar

Merrell 1TRL Eagle Luxe GORE-TEX Shoe

With so many great shoes dropping these days, we thought we’d pull a few of our current favorites to showcase. These are the kicks our team can’t stop talking about, built and ready especially for the transition into fall. But they’re also the type of shoes that sell out fast, so if you’re digging them the way we are, you’d better pull the trigger. And fast.

Our Picks

P.F. Flyers Classic Center Canvas Sneaker

This handsome classic has been a PF Flyers icon and stylish silhouette for nearly a century—and shows no sign of stopping anytime soon. This version of the Center Lo is a modernized take on the original. Since 1937, when the brand debuted the first insole designed specifically for sport shoes, P.F. Flyers have found a unique balance between form and function. You'll find that these are more comfortable than your average canvas kicks, thanks in part to a slightly wider toe box and a cushy Ortholite foam footbed offering long-term support and moisture management.

J.Crew Heritage lug-sole monk-strap

The J.Crew design team actually spotted this shoe in one of their catalogs from the '80s and decided to remake it, with a few updates so it feels decidedly 2023. Crafted from durable leather that will take on your wear patterns and look even better over time, it's got a single monk strap (for a toned down look) and a thick lug sole that not only feels fresh, but adds a nice bit of comfort as well.

$198 by J.Crew

Red Wing Weekender Chukka

Red Wing has long made handsome, quality work boots that are built to last. If there was a downside to buying a pair, it was that they tended to be ruggedly weighty and required some time to break them in. But the brand's take on an old-school chukka boot offers a much lighter and casual take. Crafted from an oiled and waxed nubuck leather with a flexible (and resoleable) stitch-down sole, they're designed to give instant comfort right out of the box without sacrificing any of the brand's signature craftsmanship. These could be the last chukkas you ever have to buy.

Checking in With …

Wittmore

Wittmore

Over the last decade, Wittmore has established itself as a go-to destination for stylish So-Cal guys. They’ve got shops in all the right places—from laidback Malibu and the celeb-spotting streets of Larchmont Village to the buzzy Arts District in downtown LA. The stores have a cool, industrial design edge that’s softened with a friendly atmosphere and mind-blowing assortment of in-demand brands and new discoveries from around the world. Founder Paul Witt is a master at introducing global brands, so we popped in to see what he and his team were into at the moment.

Vigo pant, $295 by Closed

What items are you guys most excited about at the moment in the shop?

We’re always trying to have something new in the shop. And you can never have too many T-shirts, right? Our selection is constantly growing, but we’ve got some new ones from Japan’s Sunray and more exclusive colors with our Velva Sheen collaboration. We’re really into ABCL Garments from Italy, and Cableami hats are another favorite. I also think the pleated Vigo pant style from Closed will be really popular.

What’s the vibe of the customer these days?

Clients are really into stocking up on quality lately—shackets from Cuisse De Grenouille (Wittmore is one of only two stores that carry the collection), Patagonia baggies shorts and Birkenstocks. Guys have been investing in jewelry more as well. Summer is still going strong in LA, guys are buying now to wear now and to wear on travels.

Any current staff favorites?

Our team favorites are Kardo shirts, Veja’s V-15 Hightops, Birkenstock blue Bostons and basically anything from Alex Crane at the moment.

Wittmore is great, not just for clothes, but for home items too … Anything new you’re into at the moment?

Kinto and Craighill are two favorites that make amazing home essentials. But the 19-69 fragrances from Stockholm and Salt and Stone’s new shower gel is really great, too. And we’ll soon be stocking Seth Rogen’s line of goods from his brand HousePlant, so stay tuned for that.
