The Launch
A Limited Collection of Vintage Timex Watches
Arguably the most famous American watchmaker, Timex, has been ticking since 1854, when it first launched as the Waterbury Clock Company. Back then, the Naugatuck region of Connecticut was known in the horological world as America’s Switzerland. Later renamed Timex, the brand is one of the few original Naugatuck Valley watch companies that went on to thrive. And by the 1960s, the watches were so affordable, handsome and durable, every third watch sold in United States was a Timex. To say they democratized modern watch design would be an understatement.
To celebrate the legendary watchmaker, Taylor Stitch has teamed up with Heritage 1854 and pulled together an impressive collection of 40 vintage Timex watches. The “Timeless Capsule” features iconic styles from decades past in a range of styles. There’s the MiUSA Boy Scout, the Black Max that “looks rugged, acts rugged and is rugged,” and the Mercury 1044 that was notably worn by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Each distinctive piece in the collection is well-worn, but still in great, working condition. Each one has been professionally serviced with straps and batteries replaced—when needed. It’s a testament to the watches’ famous claim of reliability.
