Menswear Style Gawd, Alessandro Squarzi
You might not know his name, but you probably know his image. He’s your favorite menswear guy’s favorite style gawd. Alessandro Squarzi is the creative director of Italian brand Fortela and I believe some of his images cemented the founder of The Sartorialist, Scott Schuman, as the OG of street-style photography. One thing I love about Alessandro’s style is that he knows what looks good on his frame, never strays too far from his preferred color palette, and always looks comfortable. Plus, he does an excellent job of mixing authentic workwear with soft tailoring. Recently, he told me “I feel very good in mixing archive pieces with the tailoring pieces that I produce and promote.”
To get his look, try a military-inspired jacket that can be worn year-round. While Squarzi’s version has personal patches, we’ll leave your adornment to you. Down to the white jeans, he gives you a masterclass on fit and how the bottom hem of your pants should hit—especially whenever sporting loafers. But Squarzi takes his denim seriously, saying “good jeans shouldn’t have any elastane … otherwise it is not denim.” I don't make the rules, but if this guy were to write the style bible, I'd have a few style scriptures bookmarked. Rounding out the footwear, these unlined loafers from Edward Green make me want to shred my credit card, but you’ll have them for a lifetime, and his accessories are classic but with a pop of red bandana tying the entire look together—literally.
