I would say enjoy the weather this weekend, but it’s too damn hot. Unless you can score a spot in the shade for a picnic, then make sure to stay hydrated and we’ll see you on Monday.

What We’re Wearing

Picnic in the Park

Picnic outfit

Whether you’re hanging out with your friends playing frisbee or planning a relaxing, casual date, the park is mutually inclusive. It's easy, always available and free. Plus, there's just something about kicking off your shoes and cracking open a bottle of wine that makes any weekend one to look forward to.First, you need a trustworthy cooler bag. Right now, we're carrying one from Business & Pleasure Co. that looks more like a tote, but keeps food and drinks cold while providing plenty of pockets for organizing. Of course, a great outfit only adds to the experience, right? The get-up for the park should be laid back and adaptable. This overshirt is super breathable and lightweight and brings the entire outfit together, but can be quickly pulled off if it gets too hot. The moccasins are handsome yet rugged enough to look good with a pair of shorts or even linen pants. Lastly, a waterproof blanket is essential—no one can properly enjoy your cheese board with a soggy ass—and music is a picnic non-negotiable, so we throw in a trusty wireless speaker for good measure.

Making the Case for …

A Harmonious Oud Fragrance

Kilian Paris Musk oud fragrance

Do you know “oud”? I’m sure you’ve seen some of the most expensive fragrances have scent notes of oud, and wondered, what is it exactly? Oud (pronounced with a long O sound like “food”) is a dark, aromatic resin produced under the bark of an Agar tree. And when it comes to fragrances, the stuff is as old school as it comes—the first historical mention of oud was in the Sanskrit Vedas from India and then in the Hebrew Bible where it was said to be used as perfume. But someone who has interpreted the wooden fragrance in a modern way is Kilian Hennessy of Kilian Paris, whose last name needs no introduction. One of his fragrance collections is titled “The Smokes” and is inspired by his travels to the Middle East. The scent that caught the attention of my nose from his collection was Musk Oud.

Make no mistake. This is a luxury fragrance. Kilian only uses premium and rare ingredients, sourced from the furthest corners of the globe. While over $400 seems insane for a scent, it’s the price you pay for something that will sit nicely on your skin and is noticeably different from what others are wearing. It also means that because the fragrance has such a high concentration of perfume oil, it will last longer and all but ensure that you will be smelling great long into the evening.

The scent—slightly sweet yet smoky, like a spiced rum—is a sultry delight, and the bottle spews luxury. Wrapped in a sleek black lacquer, the bottle (which, I’m happy to see is refillable) has been engraved meticulously on each side with the representation of the Achilles shield. As Kilian Hennessy says, “in perfumery, it is as much about seduction as it is about protection.” I do have to say, you feel a layer of protective confidence and a high level of opulence when you spritz this on your skin. If you have the means, I highly recommend treating yourself.
