What do Sidney Poitier and Richard Gere have in common? Immaculate taste in travel outfits. Flying isn’t an opportunity to dress lazily, but a chance to dress for function in a thoughtful way.

WhatWe’re Wearing

At the Airport

Abercrombie and Fitch YPB Nylon Tote

Flying is obviously no longer the glamorous mode of transportation it once was, but that's no excuse not to get a TSA-friendly fit off through the terminal. A cozy sweatsuit will always be a go-to; however, other options are equally comfortable and can be worn to a meeting straight off the plane. Traveling can be a pain—especially this time of year—everyone is going on vacation to escape reality, but we're here to help you with a fail-safe outfit as you fly to your next destination. When getting ready for take-off, we suggest wearing layers because cabin temperatures are notoriously unpredictable. A lightweight work shirt or shirt-jacket is great because it's stylish, practical and makes for a comfortable blanket on the plane. A pair of suede Birkenstocks mean you can easily slip in and out of them—be it at security or in your seat. A rugged tote bag is the unsung travel hero because you can stash all your small essentials in there and it sits perfectly on top of your bag while rolling through the airport to find your gate number. A travel-size sanitizer keeps the germs at bay, and a nice moisturizing spritz is good to have on hand since the airplane air always dries out your skin. Here's to not sacrificing style on your next plane ride, and maybe you'll score that elusive upgrade.

Making the Case for ...

Packable Swim Shorts

Outerknown Apex trunk

Outerknown’s Apex trunks are proper performance swim shorts, but it’s a pair that’s truly worth the investment. For the longest time, I would purchase cheap swim shorts because I’d only wear them about three weeks out of the summer season, so I figured “why splurge on an expensive pair?” But like any other article of clothing, you pay for the fabric, the fit and the feel. And these trunks prove that point beautifully.Modeled after co-founder and 11x surfing world champion Kelly Slater’s signature trunks, this slick pair is made from 100% post-consumer waste—nylon spun from discarded plastic water bottles. They’re not only stylish and sustainable, but they’re engineered to be comfortable and convenient, both on land and in the water. The featherweight four-way stretch fabric moves with you and is incredibly quick drying (which means it doesn’t absorb much water). The unique bonded back pocket has an Aquaguard zipper for added security, but the real draw is that the trunks actually store away into that pocket for easy packing or bringing along on summer adventures for the off-chance of jumping in the water.Of course, you could just wear them since they double as casual shorts. The trunks have been updated with an on-trend 4.5” inseam. That’s the ideal length to sport in the water and shows off the work you’ve been doing on your quads while sipping piña coladas at the bar. In the water, a lot of swim trunks don’t stay at your waist, but these do. That’s where Slater’s surfer experience comes in to play. These are made to look good, sure, but they’re also the best performing trunks you’ll ever wear. You don’t want to be tugging and messing with your shorts coming out the water, right? Investing in a good pair will double your confidence. Can you really put a price on that? These won’t have you winning surf titles like the guy they were made for, but you’ll be the sharpest one at your community pool, no doubt.
