The weekend is here and we’re ready for a dip. Which is why today’s read requires a good towel, some sunscreen and whatever cocktail you prefer to drink during the day.

What We’re Wearing
At the Pool
Summer seems like the only season where everyone is universally happy because we're all outside soaking up Vitamin D and day drinking is universally accepted. Some jobs even have shorter hours on Fridays so employees can make the most of the extra daylight. Understanding how to dress for the pool isn't difficult, but we're happy to help if you're looking for better swim shorts or some great footwear. I always like packing for an entire day whenever we go to the pool because it often rolls into the night with roasting marshmallows by a fire. Start with a sturdy canvas tote. Like a pair of Vans or Converse, it'll only get better with more wear. We can't stress this enough, but well-fitting swim shorts are non-negotiable. Quicksilver dug into their archive and reintroduced the original scallop boardshorts, which feature retro details like two-button snaps instead of a drawstring. The length is around 6.5 in.—an ideal inseam, especially for wearing out of the water.Besides the trunks, excellent sun protection is a must. You want some high-quality SPF (this is no time to cheap out), and some equally luxe sunglasses. Maybe even a cool bucket hat. Because when you're wearing next to nothing, you want to flex ... your accessories. An espadrille mule is genius—they're laid back for the outdoors yet casual enough to throw on with a pair of linen trousers for dinner. All that's left is picking a chair, opening a tab, and dozing off while listening to your favorite podcast.

Making the Case for …
A French workwear hat
Au Boulot is a French phrase for “let’s get to work”, but it's also the name of a French brand that sources original French workwear garments and upcycles them into modern pieces. Founded by Mariah Walker, a French-American stylist, and Alex Michelle, an Australian designer, the brand is an extension of both founders' devotion to timeless, practical and authentic fashion. And they’ve got a knack for unearthing secondhand and headstock workwear classics like chore coats, fatigues, and, in this case, hats.
The label’s repurposed caps are nearly $100, but for a good reason. Personally, I’m a sucker for any limited-edition or novelty piece of clothing that tells a story and is this well-made. It’s the little things the make this hat so cool. Yes, it’s cut from 100% cotton with speckles in a beautiful oat color that will only get softer the more you wear it. There’s also brushed metal hardware and a selvedge strap on the back to show the attention to detail in the hat. But it’s a limited-edition piece, and there were only 45 of these hats made—a fact that’s hand-written on the tag. And I really like the fact that this fabric was carefully handpicked from some dusty warehouse on the outskirts of Paris, then brought back and hand-stitched in a sunny California workshop—this process is evident in all the details found inside of the hat. The bold embroidered logo on the front is stitched in a beautiful script font, and since it’s in French, will most definitely kickstart some questions like, “What does that stand for?” While $78 isn’t cheap for a hat, you’re paying for the process, craftsmanship and clout that comes with explaining your new favorite French upcycled brand.
