Making the Case for …A Substantial |
Often summer fragrances are light, but if you ask me, that’s a mistake. When you’re dealing with heat and sweat, I think a more substantial scent is imperative. I want a full-body fragrance, with plenty of perfume oil to stick on my skin and keep me smelling great all day long. The one I’m wearing right now is VIXI, by the famed French house of Trudon, which has been blending beautiful scents since 1643. With over 380 years of experience, no wonder they make such wonderful fragrances. With sandalwood and sage at its heart, VIXI is intertwined with a touch of spice, fresh-cut cedarwood and floral jasmine—it’s woody and green, with a touch of sweetness. Some green fragrances can feel too light, but this is substantial and layered. It smells clean and warm and fresh. It’s what I imagine driving a Vespa through a Tuscan lemon grove must smell like on a sunny afternoon—a mix of citrus blossoms and leaves, along with dried grass and some well-worn leather.
