The Best Pour-Overs at Any Price
Getting out of bed is never an easy task, but getting up to brew your favorite coffee is all you need to cure those morning alarm clock blues. Coffee is the gift that keeps on giving—from that familiar smell when you grind your beans to the nuanced taste, along with that much needed punch of energy that caffeine delivers. There's no better way to kickstart your day. There are several ways to brew your bean broth, but one of our favorites is the pour-over method.Whenever you make coffee this way, the taste is pure, and you can really pick up the notes of your roast or the provenance of the bean. Usually, you want to buy a light to medium roast for pour-overs and save the dark for a French press or your afternoon espressos. Some people measure out the coffee grounds, or if you're like me, I use the max fill line on my coffee grinder as an indicator. After grinding, I place the grounds into a aluminum filter. I choose this because it's environmentally friendly and I never have to worry about running out of paper filters. I pour my heated kettle over the grounds lightly to start the blooming process, which helps open up the flavor profile of the beans. I do this at least three times until I have my allotted cups.If you're a Keurig fan or other big-label machine lover, that's okay. There's no wrong way to coffee. But I find my coffee ritual to be meditative since it's so early in the morning and no one is awake yet. I've been asked, “Doesn't that take too long?” And I always say better coffee is worth waiting for than just pressing one button—once you make a good cup of pour-over for yourself, it's hard to go back. We've selected some great options for the beginning barista or the bean enthusiast. Just remember to save a cup for us.

This is the most expensive in the roundup and for a good reason. Ratio's coffee maker offers the quality of pour-over with the simplicity of a Mr. Coffee. Made in Portland, Oregon from handblown glass, it has a BPA-free water tank and handsome wood accents. With a push of a button, the grounds bloom (the stainless rain head evenly distributes water), and your coffee is prepared at the optimum temperature.

These pants have menswear dudes talking. The first product from upstart British label Palfrey Heights, they have a laidback vibe and a relaxed drape, but that's not by chance. The pants ($210) feature a series of expertly tailored darts that are stitched into the trousers—both at the waist and coming up from the ankle. They help the pants have a certain voluminous quality, while also sitting right where you want them at the waist (and not puddling over your shoes). They come in two shades, “Olivine” and “Petrol Blue,” and frankly either would look great.

The Reliable, Do-Anything Frying Pan
I became familiar with Material after getting their knife sharpener. It was only $15 and I discovered that I could use it nearly daily. That was the gateway to trying out their other kitchen tools like knives, a cutting board and now, their copper-core frying pan. What I love about the brand is that they don’t skimp on quality, and their pricing isn’t intimidating compared to other premium pots and pans. This sleek-looking skillet is made of a 5-ply copper core—that means you’re able to get thermal conductivity of copper without the hassle of maintaining of it. There’s stainless steel on the bottom and the top layer is a durable nonstick surface. Unlike many nonstick pans, you can throw this in the oven because it withstands heat up to 500 degrees. Before using the pan, I put a splash of water in, and whenever the water evaporates, I know the pan is ready to use. Avoid spraying the pan as it’s not necessary—that’s how nonstick this pan is—plus, it’s never a good idea to spray a heated pan. We usually cook eggs, pancakes and grilled cheeses, but I’ve even roasted chicken breasts in the oven using this. It gets used several times a week and we don’t baby it. We mostly use metal utensils for cooking and the pan hasn't been scratched yet. Although it’s dishwasher safe, we tend to wash it by hand, simply because it takes nothing more than a quick, soapy rinse and you're done. For under $100, this is one of the best nonstick cookware items you can purchase.

I had the pleasure of photographing Davide @ghiaiacashmere a few months ago when I was out in LA. He is one of those guys whose joy for life is so infectious that my face hurt from smiling all day. There are plenty of people you think you have a sense of from their internet persona, and then quickly realize it’s just a facade. With Davide, what you see is truly what you get. He breathes passion and positivity into whatever he does — hence why on any given day you will find a community of people gathering at his store just to shoot the breeze.
