What We’re Wearing

Winter Layers

Percival aviator jacket

Winter is dreadfully long. You never know the time because of how early it gets dark, and I'm sure you're tired of wearing the same coat day in and day out. Two out of those three things we can't fix, but revamping your wardrobe we can do—unfortunately, vitamin D is sold separately. Investing in a well-crafted winter coat is never a bad idea, but it can eventually feel stale, right? Especially when wearing it for three to four months straight. This is when layering comes in clutch.

The unique thing about layering is that the more you peel off, the more personality you show. A stunning shearling aviator jacket is one that you may not mind wearing all the time, but it's so eye-catching, people will remember whenever you wear it—so maybe dress it down a bit. A midweight grey zip-cardigan is easy yet luxurious—the security blanket of all winter fits. Navy pants and black shoes may give some the winter blues because it's such a faux pas to wear the colors together, but the combo offers such an understated chic aura, you may be mistaken as the next Hollywood leading man. The winter rut may have another month to go (at least), but reimagining your outfits can release some endorphins and break the monotony of how you normally dress.

Making the Case for ...

A Cool Cashmere Thermal

Outerknown Reimagine cashmere waffle

Is there such a thing as responsible cashmere? Surf and lifestyle brand, Outerknown knows that there is. They’re probably one of the most transparent and sustainable companies in fashion today. All their environmental initiatives are literally weaved into their clothes—like this cashmere waffle crew neck sweater. Although the brand’s cashmere doesn’t come cheap, it’s as luxe as any on the market and this sweater is one of the most ethically made. Knit from 95% recycled Italian cashmere and 5% recycled wool, it allows you to feel as good as you look when wearing it.

Think of it as a more refined version of a cozy thermal pullover. After all, if you’re going to shell out good money for cashmere, you want it to be durable not dainty. And the steely grey colorway is versatile enough to match with anything in your wardrobe and it looks as sharp layered under a suit jacket as it does when pulled over a T-shirt with your favorite jeans and some loafers. The textured knit not only looks cool and is more durable than a standard sweater, but is soft and never scratchy against your bare skin—the mark of true luxury.

By using recycled cashmere, the label can save natural resources like pre-consumer cashmere textile waste that’s gathered and spun into the fresh fiber they use to make their sweaters. It’s all part of the brand’s 2030 sustainability roadmap to fully go circular—designing products from recycled materials to keep items in circulation longer and help improve livelihoods in their supply chain through partnership and worker-inspired programs. Good for the Earth and even better for you. Because it means you can feel good about treating yourself to this.
