Since the weather is cold and rainy, it’s time to shop for some practical shoes that can withstand what ever Mother Nature throws at us. The real question is: Do you spray your shoes to protect them?

The New Shoes on Our Radar
Is it time to re-evaluate the footwear in your closet? Maybe this list will help get you going in the right direction. There are so many great shoes dropping these days, we thought we would pull a few of our current favorites to showcase. From a water-resistant boot and a pair of hiking sneakers to a merino wool shoe that’s completely washable, this is the footwear our team can’t stop talking about.
On Our Radar
As we switch seasons, you can expect some inclement weather just around the corner. This no-nonsense boot can survive in any terrain, from muddy pumpkin patch fields to slushy ice and freezing rain. Completely water-resistant, it's ethically made from all-natural rubber with a recycled poly-blend lining. And since they're from the sneaker brand SeaVees, you better believe they're the most comfortable rubber boots you'll ever pull on. Drag these through any form of water or mud—all you have to do is rinse, let dry, and they're brand new again.

I don't know if you've heard, but the adidas Sambas are having a moment right now. Of course, if you're trying to start your own wave, then the Triest silhouette is the way to go. It's very similar to the classic Samba as far as the shape, except without the exaggerated tongue—these look more like old-school German army trainers. There's something about how the cream leather complements the tan rubber outsole—a match made in sneaker heaven. Rock these now with Camber sweats or a wool suit for a high/low juxtaposing fit.

Wearing elevated running sneakers with jeans or sweats has been the go-to move lately, and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. J.Crew has been on everyone's radar as of late, and rightfully so. They've been collaborating with some great brands, including Colorado-based performance shoe company, Newton Running. Other than being a stylish trainer, Newton prioritizes comfort with their durable Hytrel footbed—a lightweight cushioning made from recyclable resources that emphasizes stability. The Gravity 11 sneaker keeps the runner in mind with its featherweight feel and versatility—plus this cool green colorway is exclusive to J.Crew, so good luck finding it somewhere else.

Making the Case for ...
The Heavyweight Henley
From now until spring, layering is the key to looking good and staying comfortable. Besides, it’s always easier to have a piece to take off, rather than wish you had something to keep you warm, right? One layering base that doesn’t get nearly enough love is the henley. I know most people usually have a love/hate relationship because their argument would be, “Just wear a plain long-sleeve T-shirt”, and maybe they’re correct (but I don’t think so.) I’m in the camp that a henley looks decidedly more upscale under a blazer, denim jacket or cardigan than a regular old tee.
Like with any purchase—but even more important when buying “basics”—the fit, fabric and how the garment washes are of the utmost importance. This heavyweight henley from Alex Mill is one of the best on the market, but I’ll be honest … it doesn’t come cheap. $120 for a henley? Yes, it’s steep, but hear me out.
The product description isn’t exaggerating that it’s heavy—this is a thick, substantial yet incredibly smooth cotton fabric that’s gone through the label’s “vintage wash” process to make it even softer. And every detail has been considered: The military-style buttons are durable and securely sewed, the collar tapers at the end like a vintage piece and the placket casually hangs open just so. The fit is spot-on—the bottom hem hits right below the waistline, long enough to hide your belt and it drapes over the chest in a way to make it look like you’re no slouch in the push-up department. But, for me, it’s the color that really makes this shirt. It’s a washed-out navy blue as opposed to a deep, dark navy, so it looks like you’ve had it for a while. And I can only imagine what beautiful patinaed hue you’ll get the more you wash it. There are a lot of decent brands out there making henleys for less, but we subscribe to buying fewer but better items. And this is proof. It’s better to buy one of something of high-quality than two of the same item that undoubtedly won’t last as long.
